Job Title:                                REFERENCE/CIRCULATION SPECIALIST

Department:                          Library Services

Reports To:                            Director of Library Services

FLSA Status:                         Non-exempt

Salary:                                    $28,000/ year minimum

Starting Date:                        Immediately

Current Ending Date:          August 31, 2008

Closing Date:                         Open until filled.  Screening to begin April 21, 2008

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director, the Reference/Circulation Specialist works closely with

other library staff to assist faculty and students to access and use information.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be

assigned.

1.      Shares duties at the Reference and Circulation desk

2.      Trains classified staff as assigned

3.      Provides assistance in use of library resources, materials and equipment, including use of

4.      electronic information resources over LANS, WANs and the Internet

5.      Shares responsibility for bibliographic instruction

6.      Shares the development of print-based and electronic self-instructional guides to library

7.      resources and services for patron use

8.      Builds and maintains good public/working relations with those with whom the position requires

9.      interaction

10.  Keeps abreast of and follows current library policies, procedures and protocols

11.  Performs other tasks as needed

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises classified staff as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

1. Experience with or training in traditional reference materials and equipment and automated

library information systems

2. Experience in libraries or instruction of adult learners

3. Strong written and oral interpersonal communication skills

4. Commitment to the College philosophy of education

5. Some supervisory experience desired

6. Demonstrated ability to use the Internet and office software

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree.

Recent experience in library and/or instruction of adult learners required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, library materials, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees of organization.

oral, diagram, or schedule form.
