Job Title:                    SYSTEMS ANALYST

Department:               Information Systems

Reports To:                Systems Engineer

FLSA Status:             Nonexempt

Salary:                         Commensurate with experience and education

Starting date:             As soon as can be arranged.

Closing date:              Open until filled. Screening to begin October 29, 2007 

 

SUMMARY

Assists in the installation, configuration, and ongoing system administration of the College's administrative computing systems

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.   Assists in development, implementation, and administration of an action plan for the management of the College's administrative systems

2.   Works closely with the Systems Engineer, Application Manager, Network Technicians, and client areas to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with the access and use of the college's administrative resources

3.   Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to the Systems area and performs continuous analysis and improvements of systems operations

4.   Assists the System Engineer in maintaining and supporting a 24X7-computing environment

5.   Periodically performs system updates and other systems functions during off-peak hours, such as evenings and weekends

6.   Stays informed of emerging technology requirements for increased computing capacity and develops plans to keep the infrastructure and computing resources ahead of the growth curve

7.   Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1.   Must have experience in industry standard operating systems platforms, including HP-UX and/or HP Open Vms.  Experience with Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 server, Linux and Sun Solaris is helpful.

2.   Must have knowledge of disaster recovery procedures

3.   Knowledge of computer and network security practices preferred

4.   Knowledge of Oracle databases preferred

5.   Knowledge of Storage Area Network preferred

6.   Knowledge of enterprise wide backups, running EMC Legato Networker software preferred

7.   Ability to maintain confidentiality

8.   Security Sensitive position, subject to background checks

9.   Valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance required

10. Must be able to perform tasks and duties with a minimum of supervision and exercise independent judgment

11. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

*Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.  Associates degree required. 

*Minimum of 2 years of related job experience. Prefer 3 years of Information Technology related experience and knowledge of systems administration, particular in HP-UX or HP Open VMS environment

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and college staff.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
