Job Title:                    HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST         

Department:               Office of Human Resources

Reports To:                Director of Human Resources

FLSA Status:             Non-exempt

Salary:                         $27,000/year minimum

Starting date:              Immediately

Closing date:              Open until filled.   

 

SUMMARY

Performs administrative work on projects assigned by the director; assists in implementing training programs throughout the college district; involved in assignments that pertain to federal and state employment law.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.   Performs administrative work on projects assigned by the director,

2.   Works on assigned projects with focus on federal and state employment laws

3.   Prepares reports for state, federal and other institutional surveys

4.   Assists in developing and presenting training and staff development programs related to human resources issues 

5.   Assists in recruitment activities and job fairs as needed

6.   Assists benefit personnel with new hire orientation

7.   Active participation in producing employee recognition program

8.   Monitors and tracks employees' temporary assignments with other divisions or departments, i.e. Partnership

9.   Works with Partnership to develop employee procedures, revise and make changes as necessary, and implement procedures to ensure compliance of employment laws are met

10. Assists with verification of transcripts for applicants and new hires

11. Prepares and/or supervises preparation of materials for subpoenas and open record requests

12. Conducts employee exit interviews

12. Performs other duties as assigned by Director

1.   Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws

2.   Oral and written skills to convey ideas, facts, and information effectively and accurately to staff and faculty

3.   Ability to independently identify and undertake additional tasks to be accomplished

4.   Ability to organize, schedule, coordinate projects and train programs

5.   Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure

6.   Ability to meet deadlines for assigned reports and projects

7.   Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software

8.   Willing to work evenings and weekends, as workload demands; willing to travel throughout the college district; valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

*Bachelor's degree with specialized course work in personnel management or related field, required.

*Five years of recent, directly related experience which includes one year of supervisory experience in a human resource setting.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, and the general public.
