Job Title:                    SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION LEADER (Part-time Temp)

Department:              Developmental Studies

Reports To:                Coordinator of Peer Learning

FLSA Status:             Nonexempt

Salary:                        $9.00/hour minimum

Starting Date:            Immediately

Closing Date:             Open until filled.  

           

SUMMARY

Responsible for attending course lectures/labs and holding regularly scheduled review sessions for students enrolled in Supplemental Instruction course sections

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.   Provides Supplemental Instruction in specific courses (MATH0080, MATH0085, MATH1414, ENGL1301, HIST1301, GOVT2301, PHIL2303, BIOL1408, BIOL2401, ENGR2301, COSC1320, CHEM1411)

2.   Conducts one hour supplemental instruction sessions three to five times per week depending on assignment and required to hold office hours

3.   Integrates study strategy techniques with course content

4.   Keeps regular and accurate records of SI using the required software and/or related forms

5.   Completes and submits all paperwork, including planning sheets for each session

6.   Attends lecture and functions as a model student in the programmatic framework of SI

7.   Develops and maintains working relationships with course content instructor, student participants and SI supervisor

8.   Attends SI training sessions and team meetings as required by the Coordinator of Peer Learning

9.   Attends workshops in order to obtain CRLA certification

10. Performs other duties as assigned

  

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1.   Completion of the particular course for which SI will be performed, earning at least a "B" (preferably an "A")

2.   3.0 and higher GPA and in good academic standing

3.   Recommendation from an instructor for the course (preferably the instructor assigned to work with)

4.   Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural and social backgrounds

5.   Evidence of excellence in responsibility, reliability, and punctuality

6.   Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

*High school diploma or GED, minimum; certificate of completion or 30 college hours, preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures and departmental instructions.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before small groups of students and with instructors.
