Job Title:                    TUTORS (Part-time Temporary)

Campus:                     Mid-Valley Campus

Department:               Developmental Studies

Reports To:                Success Center Specialist

FLSA Status:              Nonexempt

Salary:                                    $7.50/ hour minimum

Starting Date:                         Immediately

Closing Date:              Open until filled.

 

SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the tutoring center in providing tutorial instruction for students and in the understanding and preparation of departmental assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provide educational assistance in specific discipline (math, English, science, accounting, etc.) to vocational/technical and/or academic students which include improving understanding and comprehension of subject
  2. Assist in preparation of workshops and materials to enhance course assignments
  3. Assist in tracking student’s performance
  4. Provide feedback for instructors where applicable
  5. Participate in scheduled training sessions.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   1. Must have completed MATH1414 or ENGL1301 or equivalent with at least a “B”
  2. Proficient in computer usage and ability to use word processing, database and spreadsheet programs
  3. Good organizational and communication skills
  4. Team player within department as well as with other departments
  5. Communicate effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural community environment
  6. Understand the community college philosophy of education

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED, minimum; certificate of completion or 30 college hours, preferred Recent library tutoring experience, preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
